Stévia Arthur

Stévia was the first person to be featured on the cover of Superstar X Magazine (SXM), launched in September 2020! In SXM’s RISE 2020 publication, Stévia generously and openly shares his experiences as a refugee from Barbados and a multi-disabled Black trans man. With his professional background and passions for youth empowerment, social welfare, and community development, it was inevitable that he would join The X Team.

Stévia founded Think B.I.G. Caribbean (Charity No. 1250) to co-create transformational outcomes for the better. He is dedicated to being the change he wants to see within his community and beyond. As an active participant in various organizations for social change, Stévia believes that many things deemed impossible are achievable: from ending poverty to realizing a “One Caribbean” vision. His passion is to help children reach their full potential, encouraging creativity and innovation through a holistic life-building experience for all citizens of the world.

Through Think B.I.G., Stévia expanded his work within the LGBT+ community, standing for the rights of all LGBT+ citizens. He established the Outreach Barbados Project, launched an LGBT+ and Ally Business Network, implemented the first successful Pride in Barbados, and created the online archive, Caribbean LGBT+ News.

Unfortunately, his advocacy for the LGBT+ community forced him to leave Barbados and seek refuge in Canada. Now a convention refugee, Stévia quickly resumed his youth advocacy efforts upon arriving in Canada. Residing in Tkaronto (Treaty 13), he continues his work in 2SLGBTQ+ African, Caribbean, and Black communities, promoting harm reduction through trauma-informed, client-centred support, grounded in Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression strategies, as well as Black disability equity.
