Dear Antiracists,
For those who are new to Superstar X, this statement begins with some context for your reference...
While its roots started more than 20 years ago, Superstar X was officially founded by Nicole M. Weatherly in 2017 as a collective for social change, inspired by the life and artwork of her brother, Edward K. Weatherly. Juxtaposing Edward's successes, including a full scholarship to attend Armand Hammer United World College of the American West, are his challenges with identity, schizophrenia, substance use disorder, HIV, and lack of secure housing.
Superstar X's purpose is to celebrate being human and destigmatize being different, ultimately to activate connection and eradicate oppression for the superstar in all of us. To fulfil its purpose, Superstar X co-creates unique products, services, and experiences that focus on four areas: Art, Education, Advisory, and Design. Within these focus areas, there are seven channels for change:
- The X Shop: An eclectic gift shop, offering fine art prints, wearable art, and more, by diverse X Artists, cultivating a vibrant community of creativity, connection, and abundance
- The X Fund: Giving back - 10% of profits from purchases at The X Shop are given to those in need, in addition to ad hoc donations from other revenue sources
- The X Gallery: Inside and outside Virtual Reality, it’s a space for Art Shows and Truth Talks with diverse X Artists and audiences
- Superstar X Magazine: A digital publication for amplifying diverse voices
- The X Summits: An education series for (un)learning, (re)connecting, and activating
- SXI Consulting: An innovative advisory
- Design Affinities: A multimedia design boutique where form and function are best friends
While humans are not born racist, we are born into racism. Society's systems and policies perpetuate racism and its devastating effects, from covert to overt injustices. Racism disconnects us from our humxnity, serving as a tool for control, division, and profit rather than nurturing healthy connections with people, planet, and purpose.
Racism is a disease that desperately requires an immediate cure. Because of racism, Indigenous Peoples, Black People, and People of Colour are under-recognized and do not receive the same basic inherent humxn rights that white people experience. Racism kills and often threatens the lives of these communities. This centuries-old reality is inhumxn and must be eradicated.
The racist murder of George Floyd revealed to the world more of racism’s chronic atrocities, among the countless other lives that were stolen before and after this happened: Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Philando Castile, Breonna Taylor, Regis Korchinski-Paquet, Colton Boushie, Jacob Samson & Morris Cardinal, Chantel Moore, and Rodney Levi, among many others, including the chronic and staggering rates of violence against Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ Peoples and within the context of cultural genocide and colonialization to form and perpetuate Canada.
We are individually and collectively dedicated to fuelling hope through antiracist actions and words, on a mission to replace the world’s wicked problems with the world we want to experience more. In addition, here are other ways Superstar X is dedicated to antiracism:
- The X Team is an authentically integrated team of Indigenous Peoples, Black People, People of Colour, and white people.
- We continue to expand our collective to include X Artists who are Indigenous Peoples, Black People, and People of Colour.
- The X Shop's fashion models represent these diverse communities.
- Superstar X Magazine features content primarily by Indigenous Peoples, Black People, and People of Colour.
- The X Team actively engages with diverse content by Indigenous Peoples, Black People, and People of Colour, particularly focusing on antiracism (e.g., “How to Be An Antiracist” by Ibram X. Kendi).
- We leverage our privileges, including white privilege, to help activate connection and eradicate racism in collaboration with team members who are Indigenous Peoples, Black People, and/or People of Colour.
- The X Shop’s profit-sharing model allocates 60% to the X Artist, 10% to communities, and 30% to Superstar X to continue its work.
As we continue our antiracist journey, we welcome any questions or feedback you may have. Please feel free to reach out to us at (+1) 647-953-9859 or thexteam@superstarx.xyz. We appreciate any actions or corrections that support our mission to help eradicate racism.
Miigwetch / thank you for supporting Superstar X and for all you do to help move things forward in a good way, for the superstar in all of us.
With much gratitude,
The X Team
